CISabroad is an international education organization in Northampton, MA that offers study abroad programs, international internships, and summer study programs for college students in over 40 countries around the world.
With employees, education partners and students spread across 40 countries, CISabroad needed a way to share knowledge with remote contacts. The company’s dedicated servers and shared Internet drives lacked the ease-of-use CISabroad needed to build communities with its staff, faculty and study abroad advisors.
CISabroad reviewed several knowledge base applications online before selecting Bloomfire, including wiki-like programs and Google groups.
“Bloomfire was selected for its ability to house all of our information; it’s a place people can go for answers when they have questions,” said CISabroad’s Elayna Hebert. “We saw Bloomfire as a way for our staff in the field to have access to information whenever they need it on a platform that is easy to use.”
CISabroad is using Bloomfire on two fronts. The first is as an internal knowledge-sharing program for staff, faculty and study abroad advisors. The second will be a public facing knowledge-sharing platform for students and parents.
“Bloomfire had all the features we wanted, including multimedia posts and search capabilities,” Hebert said. “We use Bloomfire for all information that remains relatively unchanged over time. It is primarily updated by one team for access by remote employees.”
Bloomfire’s search capabilities and question-asking features make it easy for CISabroad’s staff to find the information on their own without calling the company’s corporate offices. Mobile access to company information helps workers who use iPads at campus locations.
“Bloomfire improves the way we share and communicate knowledge among teams around the world,” Hebert said. “Its biggest impact is evident in the way we deliver customer service. It helps provide up-to-date, reliable knowledge to those who need it, when they need it.”
Bloomfire enables CISabroad to share and control knowledge through a single source.
“Whether it’s a student advisor helping a student, a parent, or a student seeking information about one of our programs, having all the information available in one location is a tremendous benefit for everyone,” Hebert said.
